The Arch is located in the center of the vast Piazza Sempione, it is adjacent to the Park Sempione, the main city park of Milan, which was designed with the explicit intent of providing panoramic views encompassing both the Arch and the nearby Sforza Castle.
The Arch was started in 1807 under the pressure of the town of Milan and of Napoleon.
Only in 1826 was picked up the rebuilding under the Habsburg Emperor Francis I of Austria, who dedicated it to peace which brought together the various European powers.
