It was designed by Luigi Canonica in 1806, the elliptical amphitheater holds up to30,000 spectators.
For its construction, materials were recovered from the fortifications of the castledemolished a few years earlier.
The structure was used as a theater and for naumanchia event, when the interior was flooded with water from the canal (kinda a race but with boat).
Currently, the Arena is the second largest sports facility in the city in size and reputation, and is often the site of sporting events, as well as shows and concerts.
